UpSkillZone

About — UpSkillZone

We're building the outcome ledger for AI work.

UpSkillZone, Inc. is a 2026 Delaware C-corp. The platform issues outcome-based credentials for AI engineering roles and charges employers per verified hire — not per click, not per applicant, not per seat.

§1

The premise

Traditional certificates fail because they are unfalsifiable assertions on a PDF. A bootcamp completion badge tells a hiring manager that someone paid tuition and watched the videos. It does not tell them whether the candidate can ship a retrieval pipeline that survives an adversarial eval. The market knows this, which is why most certificates trade at zero in the actual hiring loop.

Verifiable credentials change the contract. Each claim on the credential is bound to an artifact — a graded Job Twin submission, a mentor-calibrated rubric score, a signed VC payload — and any third party can check the cryptographic proof without contacting us. The credential keeps verifying even if the platform shuts down, because the public keys live at a stable JWKS endpoint and the proof is self-contained.

The full chain is mechanical: entrance assessment gates into enrollment; enrollment opens Job Twin simulations; submissions go through mentor calibration with a kappa floor; passing work mints a W3C VC in Open Badges 3.0 form; opt-in talents surface in the public skills directory; an employer hire generates an Ed25519 hire attestation; ninety days later the employer signs a 90-day outcome attestation that closes the loop and triggers the credit clause. Every link in that chain is a signed object on the ledger.

§2

Design principles

Every claim has an artifact.
No resume-style assertions. If it's on the credential, there is a graded submission behind it.
Verifiability is public.
Anyone with the credential URL can check the cryptographic proof and revocation state. No login, no API key.
Mentors are calibrated, not just chosen.
Cohen's kappa floor of 0.7 against the rubric. Reviewers below the floor recalibrate before grading counts.
Outcomes settle in 90 days.
The credit clause: if the 90-day outcome attestation comes back negative, the employer's placement fee is proportionally credited.
Modular monolith.
One deployable, hard module boundaries. Detail in DESIGN.md §7.2.

What we are not yet

The pitch is easier to write than the practice. Where we haven't earned the claim, we won't make it.

  • We are not yet at ledger scale. The directory holds dozens of credentials, not thousands. Network effects start when employers prefer the ledger to LinkedIn — we are not there.
  • We are not yet a placement engine. We can issue the credential and surface the talent; we cannot promise the interview. The credit clause exists because that gap is real.
  • We are not yet a multi-domain platform. Today we credential AI engineering roles. We will only add a domain once we can staff a calibrated mentor pool that holds the kappa floor.
  • We are not yet a place for first-job learners. The current tracks assume some shipped production work. An entry-level pathway is a future track, not a current one.

Founders

Mira Aguilar

Founder, Engineering

Eight years on retrieval and evaluation infrastructure at two large search companies. Most recently ran the team behind the offline eval harness that gated their model-launch process.

At UpSkillZone she owns the modular monolith, the Ed25519 issuer-key custody story, and the JWKS endpoint that makes credentials verifiable offline.

Daniel Okafor

Founder, Mentor Network

A decade as staff engineer and engineering manager at three AI-first startups, hiring and onboarding ML practitioners against role-specific rubrics.

At UpSkillZone he runs mentor recruiting, calibration set design, and the Cohen's kappa remediation queue documented in the mentor agreement.
